Venezuela dollar today: BCV official vs paralelo

The Banco Central de Venezuela publishes a managed rate that crawls higher almost every day. Most private pricing in shops and rents follows the parallel rate instead, which today is mostly the USDT price on peer to peer platforms.

The gap has narrowed from the triple digit premiums of the hyperinflation years to the low double digits, but it remains the clearest single gauge of confidence in the bolívar.

What drives the gap

  • Limited central bank dollar sales to banks.
  • Heavy use of USDT for payments and savings.
  • Oil revenue swings that change how many dollars reach the official market.
