Argentina dólar blue today: official vs blue

The dólar blue became Argentina's unofficial price index during a decade of capital controls. At its 2023 peak the blue rate traded at more than double the official rate.

Since April 2025 the peso floats inside a central bank band, now indexed to inflation. The blue rate trades within a few percent of the official rate, a sign that the parallel market has lost most of its reason to exist.

The financial dollar (contado con liquidación) still carries a premium of around 5%, which shows that some controls on companies remain.

What drives the gap

  • Band regime: the BCRA lets the peso float between a floor and a ceiling indexed to inflation.
  • Remaining controls on companies keep the financial dollar above the official rate.
  • Savings behaviour: Argentines still hold billions of dollars in cash outside the banking system.
